Gulf of Mexico Water and Desalination Project

Desalination is rapidly expanding across the Gulf of Mexico, with key focus areas in Texas (primarily around Corpus Christi), offshore near the Louisiana coast, and in Florida. Industry representatives advocate for these desalination plants as a remedy for persistent droughts and water shortages in the region. 

However, the reality reveals a different story: the water produced by these facilities is increasingly being allocated to support the burgeoning oil, gas, and plastic industries along the Gulf Coast, which require substantial water resources.
